Hello there Study Gals and Pals! I am currently a Senior (Grade 12) in High School and I am writing this post to show you how I set up and use my digital planner. I took inspiration from the book "How to become a straight-A student" written by Cal Newport.
What you will need:
A piece of paper/agenda
1.Use a piece of paper/agenda throughout the day
It depends on the person to decide whether they want to use a piece of paper they ripped out or use an agenda during class. I prefer to use my 18-month agenda to write down my assignments, events, or any type of reminders because I can also utilize my zebra mildliner's to "spice it up". The whole point is to just write it down. We don't have to worry about our schedule for the day until later (in the book it says the next morning but I prefer to do it all in one day).
2. Switch everything onto the "official" (digital) calendar
During my lunch break I look over the assignments, events, and reminders I took note of in my agenda. I use Google Calendar to transfer all of the things written in my planner. I just create a new event and input all of the information.
How I set up my digital calendar:
I use specific colors for the type of reminder such as light pink for events, light purple for assignments, purple for procrastination and yellow for relaxation.
(The image above is an example used during exam week and I changed the color coordination.)
I like to use the "4 days" setting on my calendar because it is a nice size, I can see the other days and know when to prioritize an event or assignment. I then move the event to whatever time and make them how long, I believe, it will take me to finish.
If I have an essay due next Thursday and it is Monday I will make sure to break it into segments. In this case, I would put one hour each day from (ex.) 3-4pm to guarantee that I will have time for other assignments.
Sometimes it will not always go as planned and that is why I prefer Google Calendar because I can adjust new events into my calendar without worrying about using white-out on my planner.
I also enjoy the fact that I can see my schedule on my phone. It allows me to add information if I am on the go and will fix it onto my schedule when I have time.
I hope you enjoyed reading this! It is simple but this works for me! Let me know how you organize your planner!
